Top 10 Au Natural Face Cleansers

Top 10 Au Natural Face Cleansers

Everyday, the path to one’s bed is riddled with obstacles- hectic schedules, overdue deadlines, screaming children. Whatever your daily routine consists of, one fact remains- a good skincare routine to wind down the night is an essential way to retain both one’s youth and one’s sanity. Me-time is key to a good sleep- not to mention a good life.

We at Clementine Threads understand self-care better than most (probably explains why we pride ourselves on comfy, luxurious linens). That’s why in our “Au Naturel skin” segment, we count down the top ten best products for a healthy, squeaky clean skincare routine. Confused about the order in which to apply your serums? Already have a million other obligations on your mind? We got you covered- we will release each post in the correct order of your skincare routine, devoting each article to one key step. This week, we will be counting down the top 10, clean cleansers. Because just like your life, your skin deserves an existence free of unnecessary bs (harmful, stripping chemicals, that is- we can’t do much about toxic family members or astronomical phone bills).

1. CETAPHIL GENTLE SKIN CLEANSER

Recommended by literally every dermatologist anywhere, Cetaphil’s non-comedogenic, fragrance-free cleanser works for every skin type, sensitive skin included. Soap-free and hypoallergenic, this face wash does the most to rinse away make up and dirt without stripping the skin. Whether you struggle with acne, sensitive skin, or just want a cleanser that’s reliable and can go the mile, this guy will never let you down. Also, super affordable and available at any drugstore so….huge win.

2. CERAVE HYDRATING CLEANSER

Another clean drugstore favourite- CeRave’s lines of gentle, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free cleansers have scored quite the devoted following thanks to social media raving. People seem to love the fact that it provides ample hydration due to its creamy texture, while gently removing dirt, oil, and make-up. Infused with 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, this cleanser is built to lock in moisture by restoring the skin’s moisture barrier. For more oily skin folks, CeRave also provides a foaming version of its beloved formula, and a salicylic acid- infused version for acne sufferers. Pick one up at your local Shoppers or Walgreens and see what the fuss is all about (if it’s not already sold out- in which case Amazon has got your back).

3. LA ROCHE POSAY TOLERIANE HYDRATING GENTLE CLEANSER

Another gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser (hope you’re starting to see a pattern emerge here…) that cleanses without overdrying the skin. The active ingredient here is glycerin, which serves to hydrate the skin without overproducing any oil- an effective moisture preserver that hydrates in a non-oily way. Ceramides are another supporting character, helping to maintain the skin’s moisture barrier and lock in hydration. Like Cetaphil, this face wash works for absolutely every skin type and is sensitive skin-proof. Also, fun-fact about La Roche Posay- it is formulated in a town in France that uses its thermal water to treat patients with many skin conditions, including rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis.

4. FIRST-AID BEAUTY FACE CLEANSER

As this is the 4th creamy cleanser on our list, let us dispel a common myth- that cream cleansers are less apt at effectively cleansing the skin. According to certified Physician Assistant Ami Dalal, a good face wash “should help cleanse without stripping essential oils from your face, and maintain your skin’s pH balance”. By this we mean the skin’s natural acidity- and this cleanser does all that and more. “It has the perfect blend of antioxidants to safeguard your skin from pollutants,” she says, “as well as a pH-balanced formula that prevents skin from getting dry and irritated.” It is also fragrance-, paraben-, and phthalate-free.

5. IS CLINICAL CLEANSING COMPLEX

If you’re tired of hearing about cream cleansers, and want a gel cleanser that both cleanses and exfoliates effectively- this is it. Perfect for all skin types and phthalate and sulfate-free, the willow bark in the formula (a form of salicylic acid) helps to exfoliate, tighten pores, and break down pore-clogging oils. Boosting cell turnover and keeping breakouts at bay? A huge win. Its antioxidant formula also brightens the skin and protects it from environmental stressors. The iS line is trusted by many estheticians- numerous facialists this writer has been to carry this line so it is definitely loved by skincare professionals.

6. ELTA MD FOAMING FACIAL CLEANSER

There is admittedly something satisfying about washing your face with a foaming cleanser. This one bubbles luxuriously while drawing out impurities, while leaving skin soft and moist. The trick to the exfoliation properties is bromelain- an enzyme derived from pineapple that is effective yet gentle enough to use everyday. It is in fact so soothing that skin experts recommend it as the perfect cleanser to use after intense laser treatments. Gentle exfoliation that is safe enough to use everyday? Sign us up!

7. THE BODY SHOP CHAMOMILE CLEANSING OIL/SUMPTUOUS CLEANSING BUTTER

So we just had to add some oil cleansing to this lineup- one of our faves is the Body Shop Chamomile cleansing line. Infused with Chamomile extract from Norfolk, England, this line soothes sensitive skin while literally melting waterproof make-up, grime, and excess oil right off your face like magic! The best part is, it leaves skin feeling soothed and soft instead of stripped and tight. That is the best part about oil cleansing- an effective way to dissolve dirt and make-up without stripping the skin. This line comes in both a liquid oil and a balm, which is perfect for travelling. Oil cleansing is a great step to incorporate into your cleansing routine if you’re a regular makeup wearer- simply massage the oil on your face before your regular cleanser, gradually add water and it will magically turn into a luscious lather that will dissolve the day right off!

8. SHISEIDO PERFECT CLEANSING OIL

Definitely more high-end, Shiseido’s cleansing oil is literally silk for your face! Oil cleansing is the perfect way to dissolve waterproof make-up and get deep into the pores to remove excess sebum. This lightweight option can be used both on wet and dry skin. It rinses off without any greasy residue and leaves your skin feeling soft and supple.

9. MEDIMIX AYURVEDIC CLASSIC 18 HERBS SOAP

Don’t be alarmed by the word “soap”! This traditional acne treatment consists of 18 herbs that, along with an array of other natural ingredients including hydrating coconut oil, work together to treat skin conditions such as breakouts, skin pigmentation, prickly heat, and more. Originating in India, this traditional formula also protects from odors, and dandruff- a versatile cleanser for the entire body that is completely chemical-free. In fact, this writer has been using this cleansing bar to treat her acne scars, and the results have been amazing. It has become her best-kept secret...until now, that is. Medimix gently cleanses the skin without overdrying and leaves it feeling soft, and looking glowy! Available on Amazon.

10. GLOSSIER MILKY JELLY CLEANSER

With its luxurious, jelly-like formula, Glossier’s beloved cleanser has become a cult classic! This ph-balanced, unique creamy gel formula is fortified with 5 skin conditioners that won’t leave the face feeling dry or tight. Appropriate for all skin types, this cleanser has been formulated with the same gentle cleansing agents found in contact lens solution, making it super safe for the eyes (nothing worse than that dreaded sting, am I right!?). Many skincare lovers praise this cleanser for its unique, creamy jelly formula, which nourishes the skin without that super thick, residue-like feeling traditional cream cleansers give. Available exclusively on the Glossier website.

So there you have it. Less time thinking about what to wash your face with means more time in bed (snuggled up to some cozy lines of course). So I guess...you’re welcome!
